here Montgomery: short history and tourist attractionsMontgomery County was created by the Mississippi Territory General Assembly on 1816 Dec. 6. It is located in the south-central part of the state and is bounded on the north by the Alabama and Tallapoosa Rivers. The county was named in honour of Major Lemuel Putnam Montgomery (Tennessee) who was killed in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, 1814. The county seat was established in Montgomery, which was also selected as the state capital in 1846.
