The United States has land borders with Canada and Mexico and territorial water boundaries with Canada, Russia and the Bahamas. THE USA is otherwise bounded by the Pacific Ocean, the Bering Sea, the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Forty-eight of the states, "the continental" or "contiguous 48 states" are located in a single region between Canada and Mexico. The other two are Alaska and the archipelago of Hawaii. There is a federal district, the District of Columbia named 'Columbia' for the old poetic name for the country, comprising the capital, Washington, D.C. The United States also owns a number of overseas territories. The largest cities are New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. USA Time ZonesThe United States spans 6 time zones. It shares the main four time zones with Canada (Eastern Time, Central Time, Mountain Time and Pacific Time). Hawaii Time and Alaska Time are separate Time zones
Daylight Saving Time FROM 2007: Daylight Saving Time begins for most of the United States at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday of March. Time will revert to standard time at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. Daylight Saving Time, for the U.S. and its territories, is NOT observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the state of Arizona (not the Navajo Indian Reservation, which does observe). Navajo Nation participates in the Daylight Saving Time policy, due to its large size and location in three states.
