Oregon,
state in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
Oregon is bordered by Washington State, across the Columbia
River (N), Idaho, partially across the Snake River (E), Nevada and California
(S) and the Pacific Ocean (W).
Portland, the largest city, whose
metropolitan area contains nearly half the state's population, straddles the
Willamette near its junction with the Columbia. Salem, the state capital of Oregon and Eugene, the second largest city, lie
southward in the valley, which is sealed off in the south by the low range of
the Calapooya Mountains.
